John A. Barrilleaux
Principal Consultant, MME, RHIA
John has worked in health information management for many years with the last decade focusing on solutions in post-acute care. John holds a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Health Information Management from the University of Toledo and a master’s degree in Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is credentialed through the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). John has presented on topics related to coding and the IRF-PAI for rehabilitation facilities across the country and has work with AHIMA on publications such as the IRF-PAI Toolkit, Long-Term Post-Acute Care ICD-10-CM Coding Guidance for SNF/NF, Frequently Seen ICD-10 Coding Error in Post-Acute Care published by AHIMA. John also publishes in the Journal of AHIMA on Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility topics.
Laura Douresseaux Collins
MSHCM, RHIA, CHPS
Laura has over 25 years of experience as a health information professional. Laura holds a B.S. in Health Information Management (HIM) from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She received a Master's degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of New Orleans. She is credential through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and Certification in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS).
Laura has worked in numerous roles in the health information profession including coding and reimbursement, cancer registry, utilization review, quality management, management, compliance, and consultant. Laura’s expertise include management, privacy and security compliance, regulatory compliance, release of information, coding, RAC audits, as an HIM educator.
Laura is a member of AHIMA; Louisiana Health Information Management Association (LHIMA) where she served as president and a delegate; Greater New Orleans Health Information Management Association (GNOHIMA) where she served as president and secretary for several years; and is a member of the Southwest Health Information Management Association.
Sharon Chatman McGee
MS, RHIA, AHIMA Approved ICD-10 Trainer
Sharon C. McGee, MS, RHIA has more than 30 years of experience in the health care industry with an emphasis in coding, health information management, compliance, and reimbursement for various provider types in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Ms. McGee has been actively involved and held leadership roles in several professional organizations, including AHIMA and LHIMA, LAHFMA, and NAHRI. Ms. McGee currently serves on AHIMA's Revenue Cycle Management Practice Council.
Ms. McGee currently is on faculty in the Health Information Management Systems Program at Southern University at New Orleans. Her career began as a coder, to management of Health Information Management departments, then on to serving as Compliance Officer as well as Privacy Officer at major academic healthcare systems. She has worked in hospitals as well as physician group practices. She lectures regionally and nationally to professional organizations and has published articles.
Ms. McGee possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Records Science from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and a master’s degree in Healthcare Management from the University of New Orleans.
Ms. McGee has actively consulted with clients on challenging HIM and compliance issues which affect the revenue cycle and risk exposure to facilities. She is also assisting clients in preparing for implementation of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10 PCS. She is an AHIMA approved ICD-10 CM/PCS trainer and AHIMA approved Revenue Cycle Trainer.
Patricia Trela
MS, RHIA, AHIMA Approved ICD-10 Trainer
Pat has over 25 years of health care industry experience. She has significant experience in management/administrative positions in health care facilities. As a consultant, Pat has worked with many rehabilitation hospitals, long term acute care hospitals, acute care hospitals and academic medical centers. Her work on the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI) Training Manual included the initial assignment of ICD-9-CM codes related to specific impairment Groups. She specializes in coding and auditing codes reported on the IRF PAI and the Uniform Billing (UB) Form with education for coders, PPS coordinators, and billers. Pat provides education for physicians on documentation improvement and assignment of the Impairment Group Codes (IGC’s). She was the first HIM director at three of the largest rehabilitation hospitals.
Jan Torres, MS
Rehabilitation Program Operations and Clinical Consultant
Jan Torres has over 30 years rehabilitation experience in program operations and clinical program development for Inpatient Rehabilitation, Outpatient, Acute care and Skilled Nursing.
She has served as Program Director, Regional Director of Operations, Regional Clinical Consultant, Executive Director of Rehab Services at facilities across the country.
Courtney Paul
RHIT, AHIMA
Courtney Paul has work in health information management for over 30 years. She is a graduate Delgado Community College and credentialed as an RHIT. She is the H.I.M. Director and coder in a large hospital systems extended care facilities and has worked an independent contract coder and auditor for many years. Courtney has been fortunate to be selected to code for the CDC and to also be a coding consultant with AHIMA working as a coding expert for CodeCheck. When I am not working on coding projects, I love spending time with my family and also doing DIY projects around my home.
